Okonomiyaki is a kind of fried pancake, cooked on a large metal hotplate. It’s made with a batter of flour, eggs, and shredded cabbage, often with meat or shrimps mixed in. In most cases you get a bowl with the raw ingredients and make the Okonomiyaki yourself on a hotplate set into the middle of the table.

After cooking, the Okonomiyakis are cut into pieces and served with a topping of “Okonomiyaki Sauce” (similar to Worcester Sauce), mayonaise, and a mixture of dried fish flakes and herbs.
