Changing tax class

April 12, 2007

Changing the tax class after getting married was a lot easier than I expected. All I had to do was go down to the KVR with the translation of the wedding certificate, our passports, and our current tax cards

The nice man in the office made the relevant changes in the system and updated the tax cards while I waited, and I didn’t have to pay anything.

Kochelsee & Walchensee

November 3, 2006

Continuing to catch up on the entries that I skipped while I was concentrating on getting the Japan Diaries finished, here are a few pictures from a day at Kochelsee & Walchensee.

While looking through the pictures, I realised it was exactly a year to the day since the previous time we were there.

Spitzingsee

The past weekend was nice and sunny so we drove down to Spitzingsee for a walk around the lake and up the hill to the Berggasthof Untere Firstalm.

Britboard + Toytown Munich = Toytown Germany

August 23, 2006

The Britboard and Toytown Munich have been merged to create Toytown Germany. Whether or not the new site will be greater than the sum of its parts is something we’ll have to wait to find out.

When the 2 sites were merged we found that Invision, the developers of the forum software that we use, don’t provide any way to merge two separate forum installations, so we had to do it ourselves:

Open air swimming in Benediktbeuern

August 9, 2006

The last couple of weekends I’ve been swimming at the Alpenwarmbad (open air heated pool) in Benediktbeuern, which is about 45 minutes south of Munich.

Alpenwarmbad

On both weekends the weather was pretty bad (lots of rain) so I and the people I was with had the pool all to ourselves. I’m not sure why people avoid the place when it’s raining – if you’re going swimming you’re going to get wet anyway…

Not so many pictures because I only got the camera out after I’d finished swimming.

Pig's head

At V-Markt you can buy a pig’s head, but they don’t sell any decent cuts of Lamb.

If tha wants owt doin…

March 10, 2005

My great grandmother used to have a plaque on her wall that read:

“If tha wants owt doin, tha’d best do it thisen”

Translated to proper English, it means “If you want something doing, you had better do it yourself”.

With that phrase in mind, I’m now moving my website content from the webhosting account at Easily to a dedicated server from Strato where I’ll have full admin control over the server setup and content.

Hopefully the transition will be relatively painless…

Dresden

October 16, 2004

Yesterday I visited a company based in Dresden for some work-related meetings. The meetings finished early so I had a bit of time to walk around the city centre before my flight back to Munich.
